Hardest Training Ever!
Yesterday morning was the hardest training I ever had for a long time. Got up at 7 am. I did not want to go out. Good thing I put on my heart rate monitor and wore my long sleeve tech shirt before I head to bed. It will be illogical for me to put those on and not use them. Logic wins!
Went out the door and did a 20 min jog. Ack. It takes my body 15 min to warm up. So basically by the time my body is warmed up, I had to cool down.
That's like giving a kid an xmas present. Have him unwrap it. Open the box. Then take the toy away from him. That's just cruel. :)
I am use to 30 min + runs. 20 min doesn't worth the effort of putting on my runners.
Every bit counts.
Last night, I was on the dreadmill recording my pace vs my HR. Nothing spectacular but it is a good reference point to see how I improve over the coming season. It sure does feel good to start ripping those legs. Will post that tomorrow for all your number loving geeks out there...

It takes me a while to get warmed up too. I need to use your method of putting the HR monitor on at night - that way I won't forget it in the morning when I am heading out the door half asleep.
I love that image... you climbing into bed in a tech jersey and heart rate monitor.
I slept in a heartrate monitor once just to see what goes on when I sleep. It wasn't especially comfortable. I can't imagine sleeping in it just to remind me to wake up and head out. But maybe thats why I sleep through some runs.
Either way, it cracked me up. 20 min runs are never any fun though.
I've been doing a lot of 20-30 min runs too these days. I agree that every bit counts!
sometimes those little runs are more about mentally preparing you than physically preparing you. good job getting out there.
nice baseline work Cliff!
Just one of many morning runs for you to look forward to leading up to 7/22/07!
glad to see you're hanging in tough still, I definitely need to get my ass back in gear.
Won't the battery be used all night wearing the heart rate strap?
Try measuring distance on the treadmill for a certain amount of time at a certain heart rate. Then you can redo this test several weeks later to see how you've progressed.
Cute use of the word "dreadmill" heehee :)
Hey - I use those 20 minute workouts for this reason: it keeps me away from the 'fridge when I'm stressed or bored! By the time I get back I realize what I needed wasn't in the refrigerator.
I have done this with 10 minute runs, too.
Thank God for making me athletically "able" - because I am a closet obese person. ;-)
Ha! So what did your HR get down to while you were sleeping? That's a really good idea!
Cliff nice job of getting out there! I often use that excuse for cycling workouts...aah, not worth putting on all the gear for a short spin but like you said every bit counts!
My email isn't working to respond to you. But check your manual as to whether the battery on your chest strap is activated while you're wearing it. Most are automatically turned on by the thin layer of perspiration that will form from wearing it for a long period of time. That's why the manual usually tells you to make sure you dry it off after use.
