Tagged and Slow...

I got tagged by Tri-old man.

So let's get the list started...

Four jobs you've had in your life:
General labourer, general labourer, tech support, I don't even have a job title right now. The company is so small I am doing everything. I guess I can call myself business analyst.

Four movies you could watch over and over:
Saving Private Ryan, Die Hard (anyone of them), Boiling Room, Dumb and Dumber

Four places you've lived:
Hong Kong, Scarborough, Mississauga...

Four TV shows you love to watch:
Bands of Brothers (of course), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Above and Beyond (oh this is so old but I want to watch it again)...geez I can't think of anymore...

Four places you've been on vacation:
New York City, Disney Land (Florida), Prince Edward Island (Nytro, that's right, I have visited the Green Gable too)

Four websites you visit daily:
My own :D, Slowtwitch, Gmail, others bloggers (check the list =>)

Four of your favorite foods:
Beer and Chicken Wings, Poutine (fries with gravy and cheese..can you say heart stopper??), Lasangna, Lamb chops.

Four places you'd rather be:
Anywhere that is hilly and warm so I can train.

Four albums you can't live without:
anything by Linkin Park, any mixes by DJ Doboy, Positively Somewhere by Jennifer Paige, anything by Norah Jones

Four vehicles I've owned/driven:
Only my Devinci Chicane. Gas powered vehicle I shared a '01 Corolla with my sis.

Today I also realize I am a slow runner. I noticed my pace is changing. I couldn't explain it. My feet felt much lighter. I kept on checking my HR thinking that I am hitting 160. But it stayed steady at 150s. My cadence was good. I could run 90 RPM without my HR maxing out.

I ran 8 miles for 1 hr 30 min. That's about 11 min/mile. I always thought I am at around 8 min/mile. I figure I can sustain 8 min/mile if i go closer to anaerobic zone (high 160s - 170s). To say I am feeling good with my speed would be lying. BUT at least this is a base where I can use to measure myself. So I look forward on increasing the speed later on. For now, the focus is training my body to burn fat. This mean slow and steady runs.

Now time for hot date with Rodney Yee.

a 90min run is good stuff - time on your feet does you good

Self sabotage, that's me!!

Are you sure you measure your speed right? Strange pace for a strong boy like you.

Hilda, I will remeasure again. This time I thought I was more accurate. I stop the watch when I hit a red and all.

If i am slow..i am slow ;)

Hey--slow and steady, Cliff! :) Who cares how fast you go--all that matters is you get to the finish line. I think I have a hot date with Rodney tonight! Is he two-timing us??? ha ha

Speed will come! Just keep up the base work.

Hi Cliff, I used a HRM for a while. It made me too slow. I know that sounds funny, but I'm a strange kid with a stupidly high max hr... In short, it ended up slowing me down... a lot!

I learned that even while using a HRM, I need to go a variety of paces *each week*.

YMMV, and we're all an experiment of one. I look forward to seeing where this takes you!

I ended up throwing it somewhere in my closet one day... I still can't find it. :) I just train using breathing and how I'm feeling in the moment...

I think dropping the pace three minutes per mile and only going up 15 beats or so a minute is a little optimistic. If you're running 11 min/miles at 155 BPM, I think you'd be surprised how much your HR will go up by just trying to run 10s.

But you're on a good path no doubt. Keep it going and your pace will certainly increase.

8 miles is awesome. Besides, they say to build endurance first, speed later. Thanks for posting on my blog, by the way! It's always to great to find other triathlete bloggers. Rodney Yee kicks my butt.

At least you can run for an hour and 30 min...I doubt if I could do that right now! Congrats...and you are out there moving and mixing it up...who cares what pace you are going!?

Hey Cliff, don't you have problems with your swimsuit wearing out? I'm pretty sure I've read on your blog about thin spots in your suit. I bought a polyester suit today. It is really nice and supposedly, they last a lot longer than the lycra suits. It only cost 25 bucks. Just thought I'd let ou know.
