Pain is good. Life is good!

Maybe this is a common man syndrome. I am not sure if you ever feel like this before.

Sometimes I do enjoy being normal. Not having to swim, bike or run. Not having to worry about diet and training. I work till 6 pm. Go home then go out. The past month gone by just like that.

Life feels just a bit empty. It feels like there is something around the corner that I am missing. Something incomplete.

There is a film festival in Toronto next month...one of the movie is a documentary treking three men set to run across the Sahara Desert. That's running 10-12 hrs a day for 80 days over 4,000 miles. Wow.

I scoped the website. One of the runner, Charlie Engle, is an elite endurance runner. He has a video of what he is all about.

When I saw that video, it brought me back to life. Just seeing him travelling to places most of us will never go brings a comfort I rarely feel in my normal life. Getting to know people around the world that I will never meet. Incredible.

I almost forgot about the joy of going long :). The joy of an adventure.

I am not here to prove anything. I just want to live....

Note: I did a 20 min run today. It felt good. I am so outta shape :).

When I didn't run for 2 weeks after my 2006 fall marathon, my wife was ready to kick me out of the house. Apparently I need to run to become a somewhat balanced person.

Ray Zahab is another guy that went across the Sahara, and has now signed up for another huge adventure. Head to http://www.rayzahab.com for more inspiration....not that you need any.

And no, you're not alone in feeling that way. Some people just aren't happy with status quo, and need to find more about themselves and the world they live in. What better way than to go for a ride/run!

I know what you mean about the luxury of not having to train like mad. My problem is I cannot seem to balance my weight and not run at the same time. I can't afford to buy new clothes. I'd love to see the movie about the Sahara crossing.

Life without "training" can be tough for me too some days!

Ah, the post-IM blues. Hang in there. I was listening to Competitor radio today, which is always inspiring. It made me want to do something crazy like jump on my bike and try to ride across the country.
