It is the question that drives us...
Hit the gym yesterday and went for a swim afterwards. My whole body is still aching from the volume from the weekend's training. Swim was a bit tough but I managed to get 1 k. I broke it into 200s, rotating between pull and free.
Will asked me why I tri. I have no idea. That's what I want to find out as well. I mean, I love the way the bike feels and all. Love learning to swim. Love the run. Love perfecting every motion. Love raising the bar. Love the challenge. Love giving it all. But there is so much more. Why would anyone pay 500 bucks for 10 hr+ pain and agony is beyond me.
If Sheila asked herself 'why the f*** do I do this?', then I guess it ain't a strange question to ask. There might never be an answer. Who cares....I just want to swim, bike and run. Life ain't logical anyways.
On another note, I talked to Anners last night. She is doing her first marathon this Sun. I am super excited. In fact, I am more excited for her doing a marathon than mine last year :). Since I have to do my long run on Sun, I will run the last 21 km with her. I am sure the mental support will have her smiling when she hit the finish line.
Here is my plan for Sun:
2 hr bike (easy pace) + Sunday Servce + 1/2 Marathon = HEAVEN!!! (I am trying to see if I can squeeze a swim in but probably not).
My training week starts on Sun. So technically I should be resting on Sun since it is my recovery week. What can you do??
I just glance through Going Long this morning. For the Build phase, Joe and Gordon was talking about doing a 2-3 hr bike ride + 90 min run on your IM pace. I am looking forward for those.

Oh yeah it is the Mississauga Marathon this weekend. Too bad. I ran it last year but not this year! I enjoyed it.
I know why I run but I don't think I can answer the why I tri question either just yet. We'll figure it out ;)
Nice to help a friend to run a marathon!
Do you need to answer why? If you enjoy it, it's a part of who you are. That should be enough.
Are you sure that you want to be with me when I hit the wall?? :P
All I can say is...if I don't see you when I reach 21k, I am going to hunt you down!
Sometimes why doesn't matter...sometimes just doing it is enough of a good reason. And there can't be less than 500 reasons to do it...otherwise it wouldn't be worth it, would it? ;)
As to why..
You've answered that question many times already. You love to train, you learn about yourself and your capabilities, you extend your capabilities, you inspire others, others inspire you, triathlon teaches you, makes you think and just maybe become a better person. It's all very zen. :)
I'm always more excited for other my friends' first races too. I hope it goes well!
Wish Anners lot of luck from us!! You're a great friend to run with her!
