Why do you want to work at Dell?

As silly as it sounds, this is the question i kinda got stump on. My phone interview did rather poorly. The interviewer is expecting analyst experience and I was throwing out technical experiences like there is no tomorrow. I did learnt a few things....I am very surprise at how much they are willing to pay. My salary expectation is 45 k. They ask for 60 k (this is almost double what I am making). I think I am selling myself short. I ain't money hungry. If the job is good (no OT so i can train) and the pay is decent..i will take it. But I just figure...I know I do a good job at work...why not really go out there and market myself.... :)

Anyway...since this is a triathlete blog, I better mention some tri-related stuff. This week I have been pulling an IronWil. Ok I don't get up at 3:30 am, not a scout master, don't have a fancy bike name Appollo and don't have a kick ass podcast. Ok..I guess I am trying to be more like TriSaraTops (yeah i know i don't got a fancy name like hers. TriCliffordTops doesn't sound the same. Also the fact that I have these noodle arms that can't pitch at all...[ok this ain't helping my self esteem one bit]). I started to get at 5 am and train.

Hard part is going to bed early. 10 pm is pretty good for me. I am trying to get to bed at 9 am. Then i can get up really early and train. So far so good. Let see how the weekend will go. Next week, I do want to get up at 4 am or so. I am glad the comp died at home. No blogging/msn/email at night helps a lot. Sometimes too convienence it becomes an inconvient.

After reading everyone's suggestion, I went to the pool yesterday and today. The focus was on the glide. Especially the left hand. This time i used a pull buoy. Forget about the legs (litterally) and just glide and look for a sweet spot in the water. I think I am better than say last week. Video really helped. Next week I am trying to get my friend to tape me again. Will there be Swimming Rock Part II? Perhaps. Also seeing swim couch next Fri night and get this swimming stuff down.

Thanks for the comment and encouragement.....I can smell the next swimming breakthrough...it smells good....

I love phone interviews. Even if you only stay there for 1 year, 'Business Analyst for Dell' would look great on any I.T. Resume. I'd short-list somebody for that reason alone.

Yo. I get to bed by 8:30 or 9:00 every night now. It definitely helps with the 4:25 alarm clock!

I'm curious why you put this website on your resume?!

I'm a potential employer looking at your resume... I don't think it's a very professional approach at getting yourself a job.

I post this website on my resume because this is a huge part of my life.

There is strong connection between the way I train and the way I work.

There is actually a lot of commonality between training and working in a job.

I face obstacles in training. I face obstacles in workplace. It might be in a different form but both requires blood, sweat and tears to overcome.

When someone is looking at my resume, I want them to see that I am a human being. And by looking at this blog, I hope they can see that who they are hiring fits into their company's culture.

Can't wait for the next video- I'm sure you'll be long and lean and mean.

I wouldn't want to work for anyone so uptight that they have to leave an anonymous comment on your blog about your professional approach.

FYI anonymous: you'd be lucky to have Cliff

I don't know how you do that morning workout thing.

I can smell a swimming breakthrough coming out of Canada as well. There's a faint hint of beer, too.

Going to bed at 9AM sounds like a great party just happened!

And that swim couch? I gotta try that one. :-) Can you watch TV from it??

You rock. People who leave anonymous comments are usually creeps, in my experience.

Ugh- regarding the phone interview-many times a necessary evil, like Jessie mentioned, but don't forget that we are often are own worst critic- i'm sure you did fine.
Hats off to you on the morning workouts...definitely an area that I need to "man-up"!

I am feeling you on the swimming. I know I am getting better and it is great! As hard as you are working on it, I know you will see results soon.

God will land you the job that you need right now, which may even be getting more at where you work. Sometimes the changes in your position need to come from you and not above. Im pulling for you eitehr way. I also think that working for dell is a good resume booster.

Ha! I think TriClifferTops sounds pretty snazzy!

You want to work at Dell because they have a big division down here you might get to travel to!
