Something ain't right.....
On Fri, I decided to take my HRM to the pool. I don't know what i am doing why but my swimming technique ain't right. Everytime I do a 200 m swim, my HR jumps to 165 (my running LT is 175).
That's explain why I am hoofing and puffing. If I keep going I will be going anaerobic and be the first triathlete to bonk in the swim.
I figure I either have to hack it through until my body get use to swimming or my technique/coaching needs a change.
I figure the latter. I am going to try a different swim coach.
I am a bit concern about this. HIM in 2 months and I can't even swim 1 km. I can swim breastroke for 2 km. But hey..let's be serious...if i am going to do this sport..i have to learn freestyle.
This week is my recovery week. I always start on Sunday. Going to relax. Got lots of house work to do. I just finish my Base 2 training and there is a few things I want to change. Going to read through Going Long and Tri Bible. My training still not precise.
Weather for a while was really nice today. I really want to bring my bike out or go for a run. My legs (and my mind) need rest.

Maybe your swimming HR is high because of all your other brutal training? You're training a lot, and personally I find that whenever I do an interval workout, the next day my HR will be higher than usual, even if I try to keep it low on a recovery run.
I just read an article in Triathlete Magazine about coaches. It says, as long as you're confident in your coach, to give them adequate time to see results. Generally, changes require time. It's your call, but be careful not to jump ship to early. Just a thought. Good luck

Forgot to mention, are you breathing every stroke? If not, maybe you should until you get used to the new stroke.
Jason had a really hard time at first. Private lessons REALLY helped. Also, total immersion was very helpful for both of us. They have a website, certified coaches in your area, books, DVDs, etc. There are some really good books on swimming techniques, drills, and exercises, as well as good sites on the web. When your HR speeds up, slow down as much as possible. Don't even look at your watch. Try alternating with breaststroke and backstroke until you catch your breath. A coach will definitely really help. But don't give up! Many, many triathletes are poor swimmers. You WILL get better.
Thomas, I don't think I am suffer from overtrain. The reason is that when I was my other drills, my HR is where they should be.
It is like the minute i get into the water, my HR shoots up by at least 10. Maybe I am scare of the water and i don't know it :)...

Slow your swim right down, this will help control you HR and allow you to improve your stroke.
Then dont consciously try and speed up - keep it slow and easy then the speed will come due to form etc
Enjoy the recovery week. It is recovery for me, too and I feel like I need it.
Stick with the swimming. I have worked on mine for a long time and it is just starting to get better, finally.
i think i may be enjoying a forced recovery week with you. dang calve grrr.
get rested and ready for next week!
Heres to warm weather so you can get outside on your bike!
There's nothing wrong with breaststroke as long as you stay well out of the way of the other swimmers!
I tend to use it like a "walk break" now - do 15-20 strokes of freestyle, then a few strokes of breaststroke to catch my breath and sight. Repeat.
But I agree with what's been said - take it slow in the freestyle stroke until you can breathe comfortably. Good luck!!!
I never really adequately learned to swim - took lessons TWICE as a child, but HATED having my face in the water, and never really learned to crawl (do they still call it the crawl? Doesn't SOUND like a swim stroke to me?).
Do you ENJOY being in the water? Maybe you're tensing up against it?

Enjoy the the well deserved recovery. Good luck with the coach search.
