Trainer question...and decisions..

I have a few question about bike trainer.

I bought a Cyclo Ops Fluid II from a friend on Sunday. Tonight I put my bike on. My friend told me the trainer is missing a rear axle thingy. It was attached on his old bike and it got stolen (sucks). I have to get a replacement from the company. However, without the rear axle thingy, I can put my bike on the trainer. Right now, my rear quick release is attach to the trainer pretty tight. Is that ok?

The tires are making some noise on the trainer. I think the rubber has to burn a bit before the trainer will quiet down. Maybe it doesn't like the new owner. I ride a few times last night. Oh, I am so out of shape. I think I need to switch to granny gear to get some good cadence.

Tonight before heading to Fellowship, I have about an hour to spare. Now should I:

i) take a chlorine bath and do more drills
ii) go out for a night run (did it last night..feel great)
iii) stay home and play with my new toy (the partial bike setup)

Hmm..want to do all three but can only do one... ;)...life of a confused (and somewhat newbie) triathlete....

I think the trainer is probably fine as long as the bike's not wobbling around on there. As for the noise,it's supossed to kind of hum, but if it's clanky then something might be loose. Duh, right? I know, but it should sound smooth. If all else fails - ask Flatman ;) LOL!

Clif,
That noise may be coming from where the tire meets the roller. Be sure the tire is engaging the roller or it will lead to early wear on your rear tire. Also, if you don't plan on riding outside much, it might not hurt to put an old tire on the back, so you don't wear out your good one.

As for the Sponsor idea, go for it. You have more reason to go for it than I do. My sponsor is pretty unofficial though. Just a good guy wanting to help another good guy mostly. I think you have a great story and a great "product" to present to companies. And, I don't think you are very fuzzy on it either. You spelled it out in plain english to me on my post. Write a post about it, maybe some other bloggers can give you some other advice. Just a thought. Take care Clif

Thanks for the support, Benny.

I definitely going to take a look into this in the upcoming months.

i can't help you with this one. in my world, the bike trainer is satan. i hate that thing. but i'm going to be on it for a while since the snow has fallen in utah. bah, humbug!

Hey Cliff...the only reason Cycle Ops provides a separate rear skewer is so you don't scratch up yours. Most people don't want wear marks on their DuraAce or Record skewer so you use the cheapy one with the trainer. It only takes a few seconds to switch them out.
Train hard, but train smart.

Exactly what they all said! :-)

I'd go for a run - but then, I'm a runner ;-)

I have that same trainer and was wondering the same thing about the skewer-glad you posted it. I choose run outside whenever I can now-there is a lot of pool/treadmill/trainer coming up for me now that the snow is here to stay-but then the chlorine bath might not be so bad if you are going to your fellowship group :)

I'm w/Thomas on this one. Although playing w/your new toy is awfully tempting!

Do you feel like you are intruding on the elderly when you are in the pool with them? LOL.

I think your ok as long as the bike doesn't wooble. get a trainer tire for about $40 should help.
