Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day. In Canada, 600,000 went to fought in the Great War (World War I). Now there is only five alive. When I talk among my peers, these events seemed like ancient history. No one talk about it or give much thought about it.

I thank God for giving me the interest to read military science. I use to be a geek back then (oh wait, still is now). In highschool, I would scour all the World War Two books in the library. It all started with a computer game (Panzer General). It was base on that era. I got hooked and want to know everything about it. I understand, the pain and endurement for freedom. It ain't free. It is always pay in blood, courage and honor.

It is tragic at times, that we take their sacrifice for granted. They gave their lives for us. Just 60 years. Yet, how quickly we have forgotten about the past. I am guilty of this. 11 AM I was hammering away at the computer instead of giving a one minute silence.

The Canadian Veterans have a special meaning to me. I was borned at Hong Kong, China. Back then, it was a British Colony. When the Japanese invaded Hong Kong. British sent the Winnipeg Grenadier (I thought they sent a Regiment) . They were undertrain and underequip. They were meant to slow the invasion. Despite the situation, they fought valiantly.

With no artillery, no armour and no support, they were defeated.

They were virtually the only unit fighting for control over the centre of the Island and twice they fought off Japanese battalions with only companies. - (FYI, one company makes up about 150 men. One Battlaion is made up of 3-4 companies). Taken from this site.

The Japanese offered them to surrender and they refuse. I am sure they know they don't have a chance. And to save people who they don't even know and should not even care. This makes me more special about being a Canadian. We will never forget, we will never quit and we will never surrender.

I always enjoy learning about things like this. There's a huge amount of very interesting history that gets forgotten while people make a hundred documentaries discussing something we all know pretty well, such as Pearl Harbor or Normandy.

Thanks for helping us remember these lesser-known and equally heroic men who risked their lives so others could one day live in peace.

Praise God that He stirs the hearts of men to do the impossible.

He rocks!

Hope your training is going well. :)

This is an awesome reminder of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the freedom we have today.
