Chucking my ego on the pool deck

I have been going to Running Room (a franchise running store) to share my story, Ironman and liver transplant.

The audiences are from a walking clinic. My experiences inspired them. At the same time, everytime I shared about my story, I inspired myself as well.

Afterwards, I went for a run. It was a quick 45 min jog. It was short run and I ran to the hill where I do my hill repeats. Lo and behold I saw another jogger. Since it was my short run, I ran up the hill twice. The other jogger was doing hill repeats as well. Everytime we pass each other, we will say a few words.

Me - "It's great to do hill repeats here"

Run up, run down

Him - "How many are you doing"
Me - "Only two"

run down, run up

Me - "How many are you doing?"
Him - "Five. I got three more to go."

Run up, run down

Me - "I am heading out. Have a good run."
....

After the run, I decided to hit the pool.

...back to the title of the post. I haven't swim much this season and my form is off. We know swimming is largely due to good form than fitnesse. I was swimming very slow. Not that it is a huge reality. It is clearly much more so when there is someone who 'seems' to be out of shape passing me.

It is also very tempted to muscle my way through the water to catch up. This will save my ego. But it won't help me swim better form.

So afte 1,500 m. I got up. Stretch and head home.

Next time, I have to keep my ego on the deck and focus on my technique.

You know, when I was starting out in swimming, it was easy for me to ignore others passing me all the time. Now that I'm not always the slowest swimmer at the pool, it's gotten harder. Thanks for reminding me what I need to do.

Run Clifford, Run! (Instead of Run Forrest, Run)

Glad that you as well as your audience get something out of you sharing your story!

Had the same experience at the pool this morning - first time in after a week off. Felt like I was teaching myself how to swim all over again.

Brutal.

"Check your ego on deck" - I think that's a new Cliffism. Wise words bro.
