Breaking away from routine

I haven't been very active in the blogging community. I haven't post a lot. I do read a lot of blogs and bloglines help me track which blogs are updated.

Today I glanced over Chuckie's blog. The topic was on training with no routine. Routine, on itself, is "the death of the soul".

He finishes the blog with:

"Training," I wrote to one athlete a few days ago, "consists of the following:
1) Swim
2) Bike
3) Rin"

He did exactly this, despite my fatigue-related misspelling of the word "run".

Last year when I was training for Ironman and was part of Race4Kids, the coach give me a template to follow. Every morning, I will have my session(s) lay out for me. Run intervals, hill repeats etc. Just get up, follow the plan and go.

Yesterday, I rode my bike after work. It was an easy ride. There wasn't much plan. Go home, grab gear, and go.

I checked my heart rate as I ride. I kept it under 160. Spin up the hills. Easy.

Three years ago, I would have no idea what heart rate is. I have no idea what cadence is. I just took my bike out for a spin simply the weather was nice.

Funny, how I am slowly getting back to that. To just train. And not follow a structure plan.

At the end, training is very simple. Swim, bike and rin run. I have some 'creative' ways to train this season. It's gonna be fun....

I think you inspired me to go for a rin myself when I get home. Unplanned :)

That's what it's all about....I am loosely following a training plan but am staying away from intervals and too many numbers! Keep it fun and you will do triathlons for a LONG time!
