Random thoughts...

i) Today was sunny and not a cloud. You know what I did? I stayed in my basement. I need to be disciplined in job hunting. I don't want myself to have an excuse that I can train more b/c I am unemploy. It is all about time management and getting things done.

Between sending off resume left and right, I am preparing for interviews and following up. I just find a way to drop off tons of resumes at a time...let the cluster bombing begins :)

It is a bit ironic. When we are working, we all want Friday to come. But I feel I don't have enough time to get everything done. I wish Friday never comes ;).

ii) I can tell my legs are tired from the weekend training. Yesterday, I took an epson salt bath and went to the hot tub to do some leg stretches. Today I did some hill repeats on my bike. No sharp/injury pain. But they are definitely have that deep soreness that I haven't felt for a long time. I look forward to next week as it is my recovery week.

iii) As a Christian..can I be more encouraging and more caring? I still think about this quote:
Excellence can be attained if you care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think safe, dream more than others think is practical, and expect more than others think is possible. " - Author Unknown
Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek on the Sermon on the Mount.

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42, NIV)

Boy is it hard sometimes. To just forgive and even care when it is logical to not care. Especially those who irritate you or you just don't click. Or other actions where you feel it is totally sinful.

For me, I approach the same way as I do with training. Can I share the love of Christ even if my sinful nature is brewing inside? Can I take it to the next level? Can I care more when others think is wise??

iv) Last time I posted my, I yam what I yam shirt:

This is where my friend got it from...Cheaper by the Dozens 2.
Robin, you are pretty close. There was a popeye movie title I yam what I yam.

Done..time for bed. Tomorrow long swim then 'work' :)

Good discipline, Cliff. It will pay off. I have also seen that "excellence" quote before--forget where, but I do really like it. And....that is a hilarious movie! I love Steve Martin! Your friend made the shirt EXACTLY like his! Funny!

Came across your blog by chance - glad I did.

Regarding the job hunt and excuses to train more, I know exactly what you're going through. I was let go in December 2006 and was "not" working for three months. It was the hardest three months I have ever had - in more ways than one. The resume/interview/research was non-stop, and I really didn't train much (and when I did, my mind was totally preoccupied).

Believe me when I say that the hard work will pay off. You just have to stick with it, stay true to yourself and take some chances.

Feel free to contact me for some tips - after 27 interviews and 4 offers, I've got a bit of experience! :)

Regarding your ? about my job search. I started by taking a clear look at what I wanted to do. Then did a challenge-action-result analysis of my key projects and career highlights. Then took the "result" section as my value-add statements for my resume. After that, it was finding markets of interest (I'm a software engineer) and target my resume's results statement to those areas. I also used "head-hunters" to search for matches for me, as well as my own online (Monster) and pavement searches.

The challenge-action-result stuff was fantastic. It fills the resume with valuable info, and the challenge-action parts work as prep for interviews.

You may want to try a self-assessment too, especially if you're in IT/marketing. You may discover markets and industries that you never would have thought of. You can find these all over, but the ones on Monster should be sufficient.

Good luck and keep us up-to-date!

Turning the other cheek has become such a misinterpreted quote by Christians and Seculars. I am glad you put it in the right context.
