Open water swimming is a spectator sport.

For the kiddies, it is. So I headed over to the beaches last night. Got my wetsuit up and started from one end of the shore. I swam for about 75 ft before I got up and rested a bit. Just so happen I was standing in front of kids. They were screaming.

"Hey are you swimming"
"Is the water cold? Is there rocks?"
"Is there octopus? Is there sharks?"

..don't scared me, kid. I swear I saw something moving in the water. :) I joked back and contemplated maybe I should pretend to be attack by a shark or sea creature....hmm I don't think the mom will appreciate that.

Like last time, I took three swims. Before I returned to my starting point, I would float on the water. NEAT. The evening sky was amazing. There were seagulls buzzing around me like vultures....oh that's not a good sign :D.

...haven't run or bike for a week since I am resting my knees. Here is my schedule:

Sat - 5 hr ride + 30 min run (focus on nutrition), if possible squeeze in another open water swim.
Sun - 2-3 hr ride with Will (Becel Ride for Heart)
- open water swim
- meet up with Donna and Jen at 2 pm to ride for 2 hr or so. Jen got a new bike and I want to check that out.
- go to indoor pool with Donna aftewards. She is doing her first triathlon this summer and is iffy about swimming. She is a lifeguard so I am sure she will be fine.

This is the type of weekend I enjoy. Sat after training, I am pretty much free to do what I want. Sun will be riding with Will, Donna and Jen. As I said before..life is goood.

The idea of open-water swimming scares the crap out of me. I hope I can conquer the fear someday. I hope you are able to do some great riding this weekend.

I've had that conversation with kids on the beach, too. They seem to think what we're doing is totally cool.

Keep up the progress.

Not that I know anything about triathlon training, but it looks to me as if you're doing very little running.

Oh, and I hate swimming in open water. It scares the hell out of me.

I am SOOOOO scared of open water swimming! That is why I run on the roads!

But you have such a good attitude, Clif. I like when it rubs off on me like it did in this post! Thanks!

Cliff- Open water swim #2 down! Awesome...keep it up and it won't even be an issue soon. Another tip- when in the wetsuit, extend your stroke and let yourself "glide" a bit when your hand enters the water(before starting your pull/stroke). Use the wetsuit to your advantage! Have a great training weekend!

kids are so cute. They get so excited to see us in the water in wetsuits. We had a transitions practice and were in the water getting suits on and all these kids were trying to help us zip etc. It was too sweet.
